A major restoration of Mabry Mill will start next week, forcing the temporary closure of a section of the Blue Ridge Parkway near the iconic attraction. Workers will begin removing silt from the mill pond on Monday, which will require both parkway lanes to be closed up to two weeks between mile markers 174 and 177.5. A detour will connect Virginia 758 and old U.S. 58 near Meadows of Dan. The road will be closed to motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists. Eventually, the large mill wheel will be removed and restored at the Blue Ridge Parkway Historic Preservation Workshop in Asheville, N.C.
